WaTeR Center Faculty Y. Cohen
and E. Hoek co-organized and co-chaired the
2007 AIChE Topical
Conference on Water Resource Management: Production, Recycling, Purification
and Conservation, November 12-17, 2006 San Francisco Hilton San
Francisco, California.
Read more about the conference.
During the last
70 years, world population has tripled while per capita water consumption has
doubled, resulting in a 600% increase in total demand. For industrial,
municipal, and agricultural water users alike, the growing strain on water
resources has been accompanied by rising costs for fresh water, wastewater
treatment, pollution mitigation, and storm water discharge. There is also a
greater risk of disruption to supply, fiercer stakeholder disputes, and stricter
government regulation. The increasing scarcity of water coupled with escalating
cost of fresh water and its treatment has prompted industry to think of water
conservation, reuse, and recycling. This Topical addresses this important
issue. Two Plenary Sessions feature invited speakers who are leaders in the
water technology area and in water policy issues. There are seventeen
technical sessions that address various areas of water technology, resource
protection and sustainability.
