The mission of the WaTeR center is to advance the scientific understanding and technological basis
for the production of new water sources. One of the specific objectives of the WaTeR center is the develop
the scientific framework for the desalination plant of the future, capable of economically and effectively producing
potable water from brackish water sources, and (2) to train the next generation of desalination and water treatment
professionals. These goals will be accomplished through an integrated research on water technologies
with desalination being a major focus. desalination with the specific objectives being to develop and demonstrate:

Our approach is base on Fundamental Science

bulletPolymer science and Nanotechnology
bulletMembrane Science and Separation Processes
bulletTransport and Interfacial Phenomena
bulletChemical Kinetics and Reaction Engineering
bulletComputational Fluid Dynamics
bulletElectrochemistry
bulletColloid and Surface Chemistry
bulletAquatic Chemistry and Microbiology
bulletProcess integration, optimization and control

Research projects are focused on Water Technology

bullet Fundamentals of membrane processes: filtration, reverse osmosis, distillation, and pervaporation
bullet ¢¢Novel desalination technologies
bullet ¢Advanced oxidation and electrochemical technologies ¢
bulletMembrane and Hybrid Processes
- Advanced Oxidation Processes
- Electrochemical Processes
- Crystallization Processes
- Desalination
- Energy Recovery and Alternative Energy

Research on water technology will consider and interface with various elements of Environmental and Policy Issues:

bulletImpact Assessment and Risk Reduction
bulletLife Cycle and Cost/Benefit Analyses
bulletIntegrated Water Resource Management
